July marks CATO’s 5th anniversary in business and we couldn’t be more proud of the work we have done and continue to do for local developers. From our humble beginning as a one-man operation with a flatbed crane and a pickup truck to our current crew of 6 full time employees and several part-timers operating a full fleet of heavy equipment across multiple communities, we have seen incredible growth over the past 5 years—and plan to keep on growing!

After serving as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the U.S. Army and then as a Lineman with Rocky Mountain Power for nearly a decade, CATO Founder and Owner, Tory Welch, set out to use his experience to make utility installation easier for local developers.

“When I started CATO Line Construction five years ago, I had no idea we would go this direction so fast,” he explained while reflecting on CATO’s 5th anniversary. “Five years into this, and we have not only grown, but have expanded our services as well. From focusing solely on power lines to moving into all aspects of land development, which means we now can provide comprehensive services in order to streamline development for our customers.”

From the beginning, the goal of CATO Line Construction has been to make the developer’s job easier. CATO was built to reduce the hassle of dealing with the power company and has carried that goal over to also reduce the hassle of dealing with multiple contractors.

Focusing mainly on the mountain communities of the Wasatch back, CATO provides Applicant Built Line extensions (power line installation in coordination with Rocky Mountain Power), private power line installation, dry utility excavation and the installation of street lights. In addition, we have recently expanded our services to include the installation of wet utilities, such as sewer, storm, and water lines as well as road construction, grading and drainage.

To facilitate this growth we utilize top of line JCB equipment and GPS technology, enabling us to work faster, more efficiently and more accurately which saves time, money and headache for our customers.

This recent growth is the latest milestone on our journey to becoming THE one-stop, turn key contractor for site development and improvement in northern Utah.

We’ve come a long way in five years! Tory and the CATO team have built the company’s reputation from the ground up and have established CATO as an experienced, reliable partner that can get the job done well, on budget and on time.

According to Tory, CATO will continue to expand to meet the needs of developers across Utah. “I am happy with the direction the company has taken over the past 5 years and I’m excited for more growth,” he said. “The more tasks we can take on for the developer, the easier their job will be—that’s my goal.”
